Ruth Carolyn Larson Koontz, 94, of Fairfield,

passed away Thursday,

March 5, 2020, at Sunnybrook Assisted Living surrounded by family.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery or First United Methodist Church. With cards and memorials mailed to Jeff Koontz, 1888 Pleasant Plain Road, Fairfield, IA 52556.

Ruth was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Fairfield, to Elmer and Edith (Flinspach) Larson. She married John W. Koontz April 20, 1946. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage before he passed away on Feb. 15, 2016.

Ruth graduated from Fairfield High School. She went on to college for business but had to return home to help her Dad on the farm because her brother was called to war. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Lions Club, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Merry Makers Card Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on various church committees. She also attended the Meth-o-Wed Sunday school class. Ruth was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. Some of her hobbies were reading, doing puzzles and crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, making quilts and watching RFD tv station. She also canned and froze the produce from her garden. Most important to her was following her grandkids activities and spending time with them.

Ruth will be missed by her two children, Jeff (Pam) Koontz and Patti (Craig) Small, both of Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Amber (Dan) Earnest, Shane (Jessica) Koontz, Tori (Cale) Curoe, Lisa (Josh) Phillips, Jason Rippey, Christina Small, Michael Small and Edwin Small; and an abundance of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Edith; husband, John Koontz; and two brothers, Kenneth and Roy Larson.
