Ruth M. Becker

WEST POINT ? Ruth M. Becker, 85, of West Point, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, in Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

Friends may call after 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, where the family will meet with friends from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point. A luncheon will be held at the West Point American Legion following the burial. A general memorial has been established. The Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements. Funeral services are pending at the Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point.

Mrs. Becker was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Washington, the daughter of Forest and Florence (Gardner) Donaldson. She married Joseph Z. Becker on Sept. 14, 1954, in Washington.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She worked for Sheaffer Pen Company for 12 years, then for the Homestead Restaurant and Sonny?s Supermarket in West Point. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, playing pool, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Becker and wife Kim of Sidney, and Mark Becker of Davenport; two daughters, Diana Schinstock and husband Robert of Houghton, and Rhonda Schneider and husband Josh of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Oct. 31, 1998; and one brother, Walter.
