Ruth Roseann "Rose" Simmering, 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Home. Celebration of life services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Zachary Voss officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established. Rose was born April 30, 1927, at her parent's home in Brighton, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel King and Mabel (Lowe) Hesseltine. She attended Indian Creek Country School and later graduated from Brighton High School. Rose was united in marriage to John Simmering on Nov. 10, 1947, in Washington, Iowa.
Rose worked at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory until her retirement. She previously worked at Advanced Ross Mfg., the Snack Shack and Winga's Restaurant. She also worked for Witt and Juckett helping to build area nursing homes.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Wellman, Iowa. Rose was very involved with showing horses, of which two of her horses were State Champions, Colorama's Reprint and Stonewall's White Lightning. She previously belonged to the White Horse Club and her local Neighborhood Club. Rose was a great baker and was known for her homemade raised doughnuts.
She is survived by her son, David Simmering and wife Deb of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Sandra Hewitt and husband Kim; granddaughter, Rachel Quigley and husband Keary of Washington, Iowa; grandson, Gabe Hewitt and wife Christina of Morning Sun, Iowa; granddaughter, Danielle Beik and husband Scott of Morning Sun, Iowa; and great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Maci Quigley, Hunter and Isaac Hewitt and Garrett Beik.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Vera DeWolf, Daniel Hesseltine, Helen Hesseltine, Margaret Hesseltine, Harrison Hesseltine and Charlene Simmering.
