Samuel Jackson Stigers, 78, died peacefully Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

Visitation will be Monday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to

12:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Graveside Services with Military Honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Rev Josh Tilley will officiate. A memorial fund has been established in Samuel's name.

Sam was born on December 29, 1942, in Cazenovia, Illinois, the son of Fred and Bonnie (Bursott) Stigers. On February 1,1969, Sam married Mary Lou Long in Lone Tree. Sam was employed at the University of Iowa Power Plant for 33 years.

He enjoyed time spent at stock car races, bowling with friends and talking with others on his CB base station. Sam's drink of choice was Mountain Dew.

Sam is survived by his siblings, Fred "Frankie", Claude (Lou), James "Butch" (Andie), David, Roger (Mary Ellen), Mary Lou Hoose, Dorothy "Dee" Shotwell, his twin sister, Judy Ripley, Barb (Ron) Parongao and Bonnie (Keith) Kjosa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jean Hiller and Amos Stigers.
