Samuel Keith Orris, 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the University of
Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Sam was born November 21, 1932, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Samuel Fred and Doris Porter (Hulick) Orris. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1952. Sam served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Leslie on April 9, 1955.
Sam resided in Cedar Rapids for five years, but spent most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He worked as a custodian for the Washington Community Schools for 29 years, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington. Sam enjoyed doing puzzles and carpentry work with his brother, Reid, and supervising various construction projects in Washington.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Orris and wife, Lori of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Shelly Arbogast and husband, Stanley of Washington, Iowa; son, Larry Orris and wife, Jayne of Washington, Iowa; and son, Todd Orris and wife, Jeanna of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Reid Orris of Washington, Iowa; and sister, Maridee Woods of Washington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 1996; and brother, Scott Orris.
