Samuel Patrick Zehr, 53, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Family graveside and Masonic Lodge services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. The family will be present to receive friends and celebrate Sam's life from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Sam was born June 16, 1968, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Eugene L. and Deidre (Miller) Zehr. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1987. Sam later graduated from Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa, where he was in the Industrial Electrician program.
Sam was a life resident of Washington, Iowa. Sam was very well known and went by many names. From Samuel, to Sam, to Guido, he was loved by many. While in high school he worked for his dad and his brother, Mike, at Washington Electric Service and also worked part-time at Fareway Food Store. Sam had worked at Washington Electric Service full time since 1993. He was currently Master of Washington Masonic Lodge 26. He was a self taught Bass guitarist and played in several area bands. He was a member of his high school Jazz Band and Marching Band. He enjoyed collecting guitars and woodworking. Sam was proud of his nearly completed handmade canoe.
He is survived by his mom, Deidre Zehr of Washington, Iowa; brother, Christopher Zehr and wife Audrey of Washington, Iowa; brother, Michael Zehr of Washington, Iowa; sister, Andrea Rich and husband Loren of Wayland, Iowa; five nieces and nephews, Ryan Zehr, Emily Zehr, Adrienne Gorsch and husband Derek, KC Rich, Landon Rich and wife Samantha; one great-nephew, Easton Gorsch; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sam was preceded in death by his father in 2013.
