KALONA ? Samuel Edwin Williams, 51, of Kalona, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22, at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona with the Rev. Scott Swartzendruber, the Rev. Randy Detweiler and the Rev. Howard Keim officiating. Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the church, where the family greeted friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Sharayah and Tiana education and family expenses. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Williams was born March 20, 1964, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of Edwin and June (Swanson) Williams. He married Cindy Detweiler on June 16, 1984, at the Kalona Mennonite Church.
He had lived in Goshen, Indiana; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Wellman; and Kalona. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1982. He worked for Schlabaugh and sons for 28 years. He was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Andy Wilcom Trio. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, harmonica and other musical instruments. He also enjoyed archery and loved nature.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Williams of Kalona; two daughters, Sharayah Williams of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tiana Williams of Lawrence, Kansas; his father, Edwin Williams of Kalona; one brother, Daniel Williams and wife Debra of Goshen, Indiana; and one sister, Amy McArtor and husband Jeff of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June.
