Sandra L. “Sandy” Burns, 84, of Washington died Friday, March 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Jones–Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Thursday. Interment will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. A general memorial has been established. Sandy was born January 22, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer “Butch” and Anna (Marion) Batterson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1958. On July 12, 1959, Sandy was united in marriage to Richard Burns at the Danforth Chapel in Iowa City. Sandy has lived in the Washington community her entire life. After 28 years she retired from McCleery’s. In her retired years she worked part time at The Print Shop and Burke Cleaners. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and having lunch with her school classmates. She was a big Elvis fan. Sandy adored her family and loved spending time with them.

Sandy is survived by two daughters, Terri (Buddy) Brown and Toni (Dave) Hunter. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jessica (Rick) Landgrebe, Ryan (Rikki) Burns, Jacob (Samantha) Brown, Emily Stonebraker, Alex (Courtney) Hunter; eleven great-grandchildren, Joe, Alyssa, Aydin, Austin, Keegan, Claire, Jayden, Cohen, Caellum, Jaspen, Taylor; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Richard in 1984.
