Scott Alan Egley, 59, died on Monday, October 17, 2022, at his residence in Washington, Iowa. Scott was born October 2, 1963, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Gene Robert and Rose Mary (Hale) Egley of Kahoka, Missouri. Scott grew up in and around Kahoka on his parent’s farm and was a graduate of Clark County High School. Scott worked for CECO in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for 14 years before living and working further afield.
Scott was the proud father of six children and is fondly remembered by them for his ability to create beautiful metal art sculptures, from bedframes to arbors, to woodstoves and stars. He was also a skilled gardener growing vegetables and seasonal flowers, seeding and weeding, and he was proficient in chatting with anyone and everyone he met. Visits with friends, old and brand new, were lengthy because Scott never knew a stranger, there was no such thing as a quick trip to the store. There was also no such thing as a compact disc player in Scott’s world as all his classic country was played on the 8 Track in his truck just as God intended. In addition to listening to John Denver, Johnny Cash and Johnny Paycheck, Scott’s hobbies included fishing, boating, and spending wonderful time in the company of his friends and family, especially the kids and grandkids.
Scott leaves behind his children, Linsey (Chase) Maschmann of Brighton, Iowa, Scotti (Joseph) Hurlbut of Paducah, Kentucky, Christopher (“Jess” Ansteatt) Egley of Crawfordsville, Iowa, Ashley Egley of Winfield, Iowa, Hailey Egley from Ottumwa, Iowa, and Jaden (Kendra Stafford) Egley, also of Ottumwa, Iowa; grandchildren, Courtney, Kreston, Mariah, Ryan, Elmer, Colley, Bryer, Kyler, Bryson, Jace, Reagen, Kennedy, Kaleigh, Bruce and Alice; great-grandchildren, Jhordyn and Blair; brothers, Vic Egley and Brian Egley; sister, Kelly (Steve) Baum; as well as many, many other family members and dear friends Scott met along the way.
There will be a funeral service for Scott at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka, on Friday, October 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Ray Gilbert will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m.
Donations in Scott's memory may be left at the funeral home for the family.
