Scott F. Schafer was born on June 15, 1972, in Fairfield, IA, to Roger and Judy Mitchell Schafer. He attended school in Van Buren where he graduated with the high school class of 1991. Upon graduation, he attended the Diesel Mechanic's Program at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. He worked a short time as a mechanic for J.J. Nichting before starting with Cole Construction in Keosauqua where he was a truck driver for several years. Scott was currently employed with Van Buren County where he had been a dedicated employee for over 15 years. In 2001 Scott met the love of his life, Cathy Edgar. Their relationship began with a cold beverage and good conversation. The two began their life together as husband and wife on April 18, 2009, at their home in Keosauqua and remained by each other's side from that day forward. Scott always liked to stay busy and especially enjoyed helping Aaron Hamberg on the farm. He was a member of the Van Buren County Sherriff's Reserve for many years and cherished the friends that were made during that time. Scott was happiest when spending time with family and friends. Whether it be camping, sitting around a fire, or at someone's house, he always liked good conversation and above all, giving everyone a hard time. It is these moments that will be remembered and cherished by his family and many friends.
