Sean David Sanders
Sean David Sanders
Washington
Sean David Sanders was born on March 31, 1969, in Washington, Iowa, and left this Earth peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by his family. His passing followed two strokes and severe heart and lung problems. Sean graciously donated his organs to the University of Iowa Research Program.
Per his wishes, Sean is to be cremated. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with an informal memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Sean’s final request was to have guests wear jeans, their favorite T-shirt, and caps. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the school lunch program or to a fund supporting Sean’s son, Elijah Jax. Online condolences for Sean’s family can be sent to www.jonesfh.com.
Sean was raised in Washington, Iowa, and worked the last 15 years at Metro Wire and Cable in Iowa City. His greatest joys in life were his sons, Trevor and Elijah Jax. He was close to all his siblings, having many good times together. When he was growing up, Sean’s favorite things to do were to go fishing on the river with his Grandpa Whalen and Uncle Veryl and go camping with his family. He played saxophone all through high school and proudly performed with the pep band during the Washington Demon Basketball Team’s State Championship victory.
Sean was very competitive and loved to win at cards. He enjoyed reading, listening to Van Halen, watching drag racing, and cheering on his favorite football teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved pizza and Mt. Dew.
He is survived by his sons, Trevor and Elijah Jax; parents, Nancy and Dwight; and siblings, Danielle, J and Karen, Jason and Melody, Jereme, Doug and Jessie, and Jeff; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by special friends Heather, Vicki, Bob, and Mary Ann. Sean will be missed by his family and many friends.
Sean was preceded in death by his dad, Kenwood Sanders; grandparents, Bill and Mildred Whalen, Lewis and Kathryn Sutton, and Keith and Evelyn Sanders; and his aunt and uncle, Eva and Veryl Mitchell.
