Sharleen A. Freel

KALONA ? Sharleen Ann Freel, 79, of Kalona, formerly of Wellman, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, in Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at the First Baptist Church in Wellman with the Rev. Mark Larson officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellman Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church. Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Freel was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Iowa City, the daughter of Melvin L. and Marjorie (Blumenstein) Miller. She married Wesley A. Freel on Nov. 25, 1954, at the First Baptist Church of Wellman.

She graduated from Wellman High School. She was a farm wife and member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as organist for 60 years. She played for countless weddings and funerals and at Saturday evening Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church for many years. She loved music, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.

Surviving are one daughter, Deb Yoder and husband Bob of Kalona; one son, Mike Freel and wife Jan of Washington; one daughter-in-law, Chris Freel of Kalona; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Miller and wife Karyl of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley; one daughter, Kathy Miller; one son, Steve Freel; one granddaughter; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane Miller, Dean Miller and wife Patty, and Donnie Miller and wife JoAnn.
