Sharon Kay Phillips, 73, of New London, died Monday, August 2, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born November 17, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, to Clayton Walter and Marjorie Dean Conard Parsons. She married Michael Ray Phillips on December 10, 1967, at the Danville Baptist Church. He preceded her in death June 19, 2014.
She attended school in Lowell through fifth grade and was a 1966 graduate of New London High School. Sharon worked at JC Penney, HyVee, and retired from Medium Security Unit, all in Mt. Pleasant. She also worked at New London Care Center, Deerwood, as a janitor at the school and helped her husband with his construction business. As a child, she attended the Lowell Church, later the New London Presbyterian Church and, most recently, New London United Methodist Church. Sharon enjoyed golfing, watching the Green Bay Packers, painting, gardening and being outside, and was known for her excellent cookies and candy having owned Sharon's Sweet Shop.
Survivors include her children, Kim (Todd) Thornburg, Kathy (Jim) Rice and Michael (Jodi) Phillips, all of New London; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Paula (Ted) Broeker-Mohrfeld of Mt. Pleasant, Debby (Daryl) Gipple of New London, Brenda (Dave) Anderson of St. Ansgar and Jo (Dave) Hollingsworth of New London.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. The Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, New London, with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Pastor Katheen Moore will officiate. Inurnment of her cremains will follow the service at Burge Cemetery, rural New London. A memorial has been established for EveryStep Hospice.
