Sharon Terry “Sherry” Friday, age 84, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at her residence after a brief illness.
Sherry was born on December 29, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Audrey (Harnish) Cruthirds. She graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1959 and later graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in textiles and clothing. On May 15, 1964, Sherry married Dennis Friday in Davenport, Iowa.
In 1980, Sherry moved to Washington, where she owned and operated Friday’s Upholstery from 1981 until her retirement. She was a bike riding enthusiast, especially with Denny on their red tandem, and rode RAGBRAI many times beginning in 1997. Denny and Sherry enjoyed spending winters in California and Arizona and made many friends wherever they went.
After Denny’s unexpected death in 2016, Sherry picked herself up and lived life to the fullest. She had many close friends in Washington, and her fun-loving spirit was a constant inspiration to them. In recent years, she became an avid pickleball player and was active at the Washington Community YMCA. Just two weeks before her death, she lifted weights, played pickleball, and golfed all in a single day.
Sherry also loved working in her yard with flowers, plants, and sculptures that created a beautiful and peaceful place to spend time. She enjoyed volunteering at the KEWASH Trail Half Marathon each spring in recent years, dressing up in costumes with her friends to cheer on the runners. Most of all, Sherry loved spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: son, Jay (Tina) Friday of Mason City, Iowa; son, Chad (Joelle) Friday of Parker, Colorado; son, Nathan Friday of Carbondale, Colorado; stepdaughter, Lori (Brian) Hoover of Marshalltown, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne (Kent) Sidney of Davenport, Iowa.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Denny in 2016.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Sherry’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
