Sheila Helmick, 68, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at her home in Columbus Junction. She bravely fought cancer for nearly three years to be able to spend more time with her family, enjoying trips with and creating wonderful memories. Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction. Inurnment will follow the services at Columbus City Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Columbus Junction Ambulance Service or the Washington County Hospice in memory of Sheila. Sheila Jo Pugh was born on April 17, 1956, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Ann (Zaruba) Pugh. On September 26, 1987, she was united in marriage to Craig Helmick at the Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction. She worked as a program technician for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Muscatine, Johnson and Washington County for over 20 years. Sheila was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, taking care of her flowers, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. The last five years she referred to her home as Camp “Nain” which is the Welsh word for Grandmother.
Sheila will be missed by husband, Craig of Columbus Junction; children, Augusta Boulton of Columbus Junction; Nate (Andrea) Boulton of Des Moines; grandchildren, Gwyneth and Alys; father, Arthur Pugh of Columbus City; siblings, Terry (Janice) Pugh of Columbus City; Patsy (Bobby) Taylor of Callender; and many nieces and nephews.
Sheila was preceded in death by her mother.
