Sheryl Sue Proenneke, age 66, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa, following an extended illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2022, at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dave Watson officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at the Spencer Cemetery in rural Stockport, Iowa. A general memorial had been established. Sue was born February 13, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Appleby) Van Voltenburg. She graduated with honors from Mid Prairie High School in 1974. Sue had three children from her first marriage and was later married to Keith Proenneke.
She lived the majority of her life in the Stockport area before moving to Brighton, Iowa, and later moving to Washington, Iowa, in 2020. Sue worked most of her life in Customer Service. She was last employed by Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed sewing, gardening, going on road trips, watching Hallmark movies, baking and making Apple Butter. Sue loved spending time with her cat, Sophie. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, doing crafts with them, and attending their many activities.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Mindy Herring and husband Larry of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Andrea Malcom and husband Andy of Burlington, Iowa; son, Daniel Peek and wife Angela of Washington, Iowa; and grandchildren: Rady, Logan, Brenton, Addison, Brooke, Maddyx and Brandon. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Van Voltenburg of Kinross, Iowa; brother, Ronnie Van Voltenburg and wife Sharon of Grinnell, Iowa; and sister, Diane Toomer of Clinton, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Chad Van Voltenburg.
