Shirlene Gaines Heston

Shirlene Gaines Heston, 84, of Newport Beach, Calif., died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011.

A memorial service was held Oct. 9 in Newport Beach. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mrs. Heston was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Fairfield, the daughter of Richard William Gaines and Lorene Jones Gaines. She married John Larson Heston Oct. 1, 1949. He died Nov. 20, 1997.

Mrs. Heston graduated from Fairfield High School and then from the University of Iowa with a degree in political science and a minor in art. The Hestons lived in Cedar Rapids before moving to Newport Beach in 1959. Mrs. Heston owned and operated a printing business, Heston Graphics, in Newport Beach. In her final years, she resided at Vintage Newport Care Facility.

Survivors include three children, Lori, Richard and Lon Heston, all of California; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters-in-law, Emma Lou Carter of Keosauqua and Mary Jane Whitney of Fairfield.
