Shirley A. Hatton, 94, of Winfield, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield in Shirley’s name. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com.
Shirley was born August 5, 1928, in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Marie (Tieman) Humphrey. She attended country school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1945 and from Burlington Beauty School in 1946. On September 10, 1948, Shirley married Walter E. Hatton in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Shirley lived in Mt. Pleasant from 1948-1989. She worked as a cosmetologist for 3 years, for Sheaffer Pen for 12 years, Metromail for 20 years and Broeg and Associates for 5 years. Shirley was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Mt. Pleasant. She loved her flowers and liked to travel, wintering in San Juan, Texas for 31 years. She was also a volunteer at Old Thrashers.
She moved to Winfield in 1989 to retire. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 12 years, active in Church Circle and a volunteer at Congregate Meals. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband, Walter Hatton of Winfield; daughter, Kymm (Kirt) McIntosh of Falcon, CO; and son, Kurt (Danean) Hatton of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brothers, Allen and Loren Humphrey; and sisters, Frances Johnsen and Lou Barrick.
