Shirley Ann (Carter) Crafton, 85 of Birmingham died Monday, July 12, 2021 at Keosauqua Health Care Center. In accordance with her wishes her body has been cremated. The family will hold a private service on the morning of Saturday, July 17, and invite the public to a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Birmingham City Park at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 17, 2021. In lieu of flowers, gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be brought to the celebration of life or mailed to the family at 124 Cross Street, Birmingham, IA 52535.
Shirley was born February 28, 1936 in Ollie, Iowa to Alva Carter and Lolita Estes Carter. She grew up on a farm outside of Ollie and graduated from Ollie High School in 1954. Shirley married Leonard Crafton in July 1959, he preceded her in death in 2013.
After moving to Birmingham, Shirley worked for many years at the Farmers' Store and later provided childcare for many kids over multiple years in the Birmingham Community. Later still, she helped provide meals to senior citizens at the Stockport Senior Center.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Peggy Lee (Charlie) and Lorie Sickles (Bill), all of Birmingham; three sons, Terry Crafton (Cyndia) of Birmingham, Michael Crafton of Fairfield and Marlon Crafton of Birmingham; four grandsons, Travis Dimmitt (Elizabeth) of Maryville, MO, Dustin Sickles of Birmingham, Kyle Crafton (Brandi Burgess) of Birmingham and Miles (Kassie) Crafton of Eldridge; seven great-grandchildren, Mattie, Charlie, Henry, Teagan, Damien, Cash and Noah, and two brothers, Dean Carter (Polly) of Haysville and Bob Carter of Sigourney.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Carter in 2007, and a sister Madeline Marshall in 2010.
