Shirley Ann Metzger, 86, of Columbus Junction, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at her home in Columbus Junction. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction. Burial will follow the services at Columbus City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Stepping Stones Care Giving in memory of Shirley. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Shirley Ann Brown was born February 13, 1937 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Knottnerus) Brown. She attended Wapello High School. On December 12, 1953, she was united in marriage to James Raymond Van Auken. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1976. Shirley was united in marriage to Richard Metzger on June 28, 1980 in Columbus City. She worked at Thatcher Plastics for over 40 years. Shirley was a member of The Free Methodist Church in Columbus City. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, collecting thimbles and spoons, going on walks and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Richard Metzger of Columbus Junction; children, Peggy (Jon) Hoback of Columbus Junction, Sheila (Mark) Lukins of Washington; stepchildren, Rick (Sherry) Metzger, Judy Metzger, Karen (Mark) Bixby, all of Muscatine; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Beverly (Burt) Finley of Wapello.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; daughters, Gayla Boyd and Melody Counce; stepdaughter Cheryl Metzger; grandson, Miles Counce and brothers, Charles and Ab Brown.
