Shirley Ann Pfeifer, 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at her residence.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kwang Song officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday, Sept. 23, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church, Washington County 4-H and the Conger House.

Shirley was born March 2, 1929, in Wallingford, Iowa, the daughter of Max and Opal (Hoffman) Soeth. She graduated from Gruver High School in 1947 and attended Iowa Teachers College. Shirley was united in marriage to Leo Fredrick "Fred" Pfeifer on June 14, 1953, in Washington.
Shirley had lived in Washington County since 1951. She was an art teacher for Washington Community School District from 1951 to 1953, teaching at Stewart and Lincoln Elementary. She also taught for the Columbus Junction Community School District from 1967 to 1994. She was a member at the United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women where she held state offices. Shirley also was a member of the Washington County Historical Society, PEO, Iowa Teacher's Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Fortnightly and Washington County Democrats. She was a master gardner and the 4-H gardening project leader for 40 years. Shirley was active in the Friendly Families Neighborhood Club and the Art Educators Association. She loved gardening and being outside and traveling, especially her trip to London to see the Chelsea Flower Show. Shirley enjoyed sewing and quilting and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Collins and husband John of Bluffton, S.C.; son, Roger Pfeifer and wife Wanda of Lawrence, Kan.; son, George Pfeifer and wife Jolisa of Wayland, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Michael (Allison) Collins, Gregory (Anna) Collins, Elizabeth Collins, Haley Hughes-Pfeifer, David Hughes-Pfeifer, Malory Hughes-Pfeifer, Spencer Pfeifer and Jennifer (Colin) Shepherd; five great-grandchildren; and half-brother, Mark Soeth and wife Joan of Salisbury, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1975, and sister, Lorna Nichols.
