Shirley J. Simkin, 88 of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at her home in Arizona.

Shirley was born on March 24, 1935, at her home in rural Henry County, the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Moore) Brandmeyer. She graduated from New London High School in the class of 1952. Shirley was united in marriage to William Simkin on February 18, 1956, in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2000. She had worked for North Western Bell and Heritage Cablevision before her retirement in 1992. Shirley was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Steve) Dixon of Bettendorf, Iowa, Deborah Simkin of Tucson, Arizona, and Douglas (Christa Johnson) Simkin of Iowa City, Iowa; her grandchildren, Libby Parker-Simkin, William Parker-Simkin and Emerson Parker-Simkin; sister-in-law, Sandra Mellott of Burlington along; with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William and four sisters and three brothers.

A private family burial will take place in the Salem South Cemetery. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
