Shirley LaVon Gordon

      Shirley LaVon Gordon, 71, of Brighton, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

      Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday June 3, 2005, at First Church of God in Brighton, with the Rev. Rich Boyd and the Rev. Rick Hughes officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery will follow cremation. Visitation will be Thursday, beginning at 3 p.m., at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association or for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

      Mrs. Gordon was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Ottumwa to Joseph O. and Ruth E. (Volger) Smith. She married Murray Douglas Gordon in Reno, Nev., on July 17, 1958.
