Shirley was born to Lloyd Vernon (Bill) and Chlora Fern Goodwin of Washington, Iowa on September 19, 1940. She attended Washington High School. While working the concessions at the State Theater she met George Clive Statler. They married on November 1, 1959. Together they raised their family of 3 children in Bettendorf.
During this time, Shirley kept very busy with being PTA President and a TTT club member, and being involved with scouting and being a member of Bettendorf Christian Church. After retiring, Shirley and Clive moved back to Washington where they lived for several years. Then on to Ankeny, Iowa to be closer to their two sons and their growing families. After a few years, they moved into an independent living apartment at Ramsey Village, a continuing care center in Des Moines. Over time and injuries, they eventually moved into the long-term unit.
Shirley leaves behind one daughter Brenda (Rick) Secoy, and 2 sons Doug (Chris), and Denny (Jennifer). All together they were blessed with 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Harold W Goodwin, younger sister Sheila Dee Goodwin Freel Hubler, and most recent was the loss of her dear husband of 63 years, Clive. She was also preceded in death by her 4 half siblings: Ester Hill, Wanda Dawson, Helen Wiyninger, and Delbert (Dick) Goodwin.
