Shirley Mae Klos, 85, of New London, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant. She was born on September 13, 1940, in Arispe, Iowa, to Thomas and Lola Irene Blakesley Cheers.
Shirley was a graduate of Afton High School and on May 14, 1960 she married Marvin F. Klos in Afton, Iowa.
She devoted many years as a railroad wife and homemaker and her home was always immaculate. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and knitting, going to the casino, and volunteering. She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church.
Shirley is survived by her husband, of New London, sons John Klos of Montezuma, and Rick (Billie Jo) Klos of Afton; six grandchildren, Travis, Rikki, Beau, Cheyenne, Lauren, and Carmen; and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo (Dolly) Cheers of Creston, Iowa, and Jim (Kay) Cheers of Independence, Missouri. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Brandi, and her brother Jerry Blakesley.
A celebration of life for Shirley will be held at 2 pm, March 7, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Kathleen Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and inurnment will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery, Afton, Iowa, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the New London United Methodist Church or the Depot at Dover Museum, New London.
