Peoria, Ill.
Shirley Marie Whitmer, 80, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at her residence.
She was born on July 1, 1943 in Fairfield, Iowa to Geneva (Spanier) Yoder Meck and Walter J. Yoder.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Harold A. Whitmer; her three children, Scott (Daphne) Whitmer of Arkansas, Kristina (Ronald) Alcorn of East Peoria and Brian (Rebecca) Whitmer of Creve Coeur. Of those three children, they were blessed with six grandchildren, Meagan Alcorn of Bartonville, Christopher (Courtney) Whitmer of Washington, Matthew (Emily) Whitmer of Washington, Sean Whitmer of Arkansas, Kaytlin Alcorn of Marquette Heights, and Amber Whitmer of Troy, Missouri. Harold and Shirley are great-grandparents to five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Elijah, Selah, Cooper and Lyra Whitmer.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva; her stepfather, Clifton Meck; brothers, James and Donald Yoder.
Shirley graduated Burlington Business School in 1961; moving on to marry the love of her life Harold Allen Whitmer. Harold and Shirley were married on March 18, 1962 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage together. Harold and Shirley proved what true love was by meeting when they were kids and knowing each other for 70 years.
Before retirement, Shirley spent her time working as a pharmacy technician at Kroger for many years. Shirley loved spending time with her husband and family. She loved playing games such as Mahjong and Solitaire. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and knitting.
Funeral service was held Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the DavisonFulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria. Visitation was one hour prior to service. Burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or OSF Healthcare Hospice.

Shirley had a big heart that cared for everyone she met, and was an enormous part of everyone’s life. She put everyone before herself, and will be extremely missed.
