She had a normal, happy childhood. She attended grade school at St. Mary?s School in Keota, which was 4 miles from home. She attended St. Joseph?s High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she graduated in 1940. She entered the School Sisters of St. Francis in June of that year and took her first vows in June 1942.
