Steven Marr “Smiley” Wood, age 75, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Friday, September 9, 2022, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Marr Park. Steve was born December 4, 1946, the son of Daryl H. and Jessie Marr (Dryden) Wood. Steve was raised by his mother and after her passing, Steve lived with his foster parents, Lawrence and Frances Wilson. He attended school in Ainsworth, Iowa. Steve was united in marriage to Erma Paisley on August 27, 1966, in Ainsworth, Iowa.

Steve was a lifelong resident of Ainsworth, Iowa. He raised cattle his entire life and also worked at Blue Bird Mfg. in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Rath Packing Plant in Columbus Junction, Iowa; and worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation until his retirement.

He served honorably in the Army National Guard for several years. Steve loved raising cattle. He enjoyed deer and coyote hunting. Steve was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed following Dale Earnhart and Dale Earnhart Jr. He enjoyed attending races in West Liberty and Columbus Junction. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending their many events. Steve loved spoiling his cats and dog.

He is survived by his wife Erma Wood of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Pat Wood and wife Angie of Clarence, Iowa; son, Brian Wood and wife Angie of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Teresa Hahn and husband Ted of Ainsworth, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and his foster siblings: Bill Wilson and wife Millie of Ainsworth, Iowa; Sue Coffin of Lynden, Illinois; and Jim Wilson and wife Marcia of Washington, Iowa.

Steve was preceded in death by his mom, Jessie Dryden.
