Steven R. Gillaspie, 68, of Burlington died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Born July 6, 1953, in Washington, IA, he was the son of Robert and Joy (Bauer) Gillaspie. He married Geri Bender October 3, 1993, in Burlington.

Steven graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Indian Hills Community College. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for John Deere in Sperry and Des Moines County Roads Department, retiring in September of 2011.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, Shoquoquon Boat Club and Bluff Harbor Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Geri Gillaspie; sons, Duston Gillaspie of Fruitland, IA, and Trent Gillaspie of Wapello, IA; daughters, Karen (Jeff) Elliott and Sandy Elmore, both of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Natallie, Devon, Theron, Jami, Lyndi, Kori, Derek, and Kayla; his parents, Robert and Joy Gillaspie of Fairfield, IA; sister, Cindy (Mike) Scearcy of Fairfield, IA; brother, Pastor Wes (Ann) Gillaspie of Frankenmuth, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

The memorial service for Mr. Gillaspie will be

11:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Lunning Chapel. His brother, Pastor Wes Gillaspie will officiate. There will be a lunch at The Eagles Club following the service. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service, where the family will receive friends.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Memorials have been established for Mayo Clinic Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester, MN, and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
