Susan E. English, 71, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincs, following a short illness.
Celebration of Life services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Friday, Feb. 14, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Susan was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Marie E. (Darbyshire) Knupp. She attended Prairie Flower School through sixth grade, and then attended school in Washington. She graduated from Washington High School in 1967. Susan attended Iowa State University for one year and graduated from Drake University in 1970. She was united in marriage to Douglas A. English on April 4, 1972, in Washington, Iowa.
Susan and Doug lived in Des Moines, for a short time after their marriage before moving to Washington. She was a homemaker and worked at Sitler Electric and Yoder Tax Service. She trained to be a dialysis nurse to help care for her husband. Susan taught exercise class at the Washington Community Y and the Washington Dance Center for several years.
She was a member of the Neighborhood Snowball Social Club, Y Women, AAUW, the Monday Night Social Club, taught Bible School for many years and was a former member of PEO. Susan was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes Fan and was a faithful season ticket holder and loyal donor since 1975. She enjoyed wintering in St. George, Utah, the past several years.
Susan is survived by her son, Mark English and wife Sara of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Amy Marsh and husband Tyler of Elkhorn, Neb.; four grandchildren, Addison and Parker English, and Brynn and Aubrey Marsh; one sister, Sara Bartlett and husband Larry of Washington, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Barb English of Harlan, Iowa; as well as her extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doug, in 2002; and brother, David Knupp, in 1947.
