Sylvia McClune, 88 of Oskaloosa and formerly of Montezuma, passed away Thursday morning, December 14, 2023 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral services were held 10:30 am Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial was held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the Montezuma American Legion Auxiliary or the Poweshiek Historical Society. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Sylvia Mae McClune, the daughter of Marvin and Gesina (Brau) McCulley, was born on September 23, 1935 on the McCulley farm in Keokuk County, IA. She attended Oskaloosa High School before graduating from Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, MN. On March 23, 1955, Sylvia was united in marriage to Paul McClune at the Grace Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. To this union three daughters where born, Paulette, Suzette and Lynette. They later divorced. She moved to Montezuma from Gibson in 1978. Sylvia worked at the Montezuma Care Center before working at Brownell’s Inc. for over 20 years. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, quilting and coffeetime with friends. She spent much of her retirement volunteering for the Montezuma Library and the Poweshiek Historical Society. In 2013, Sylvia moved to Oskaloosa to be closer to her family.
Her memory will be honored by her children, Paulette (Ronald) Dietrich, Suzette McClune and Lynette (Robert) Cline; her grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel) Dietrich, Barry (Laura) Dietrich, Alex (Kristi) Waite, Eric (Nadine) Eckmann, Ian (Vanessa) McClune, Margo Cline and Kyle Cline; six great-grandchildren, Colton Dietrich, Cooper Dietrich, Kaelyn Dietrich, Lillian Waite, Augustus Waite and Eliza McClune; a brother, Donnovan (Tess) McCulley; her half sisters, Sandi Mueller and Lynda Ambrose; her sister-in-law, Pat McCulley; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard McCulley.
