Teresa Victoria Cardenas

Teresa Victoria Cardenas, 15, of Iowa City, Iowa died Friday, December 1, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital as the result of an accident at school.

Funeral services for Teresa will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in Celebration Hall at Iowa Mennonite School, 1421 540th St. SW, Kalona, Iowa 52247. Burial will follow at the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Family visitation will be Tuesday, December 5 from 3:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Celebration Hall. There will be a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in Celebration Hall. A general memorial in the name of Teresa Victoria Cardenas has been established. Beatty-Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Teresa was born May 2, 2002 in Iowa City, the daughter of Carlos Cardenas and Mireya Mendoza. She was a sophomore at Iowa Mennonite School, played basketball, soccer and sang with the IMS Choir. Teresa enjoyed volunteering, painting and writing poetry and was active at Torre Fuerte/First Mennonite MYF in Iowa City.

Survivors include her mother, Mireya of Iowa City and father, Carlos of Guatemala; brothers, Michael A. Mendoza of Olathe, Kan. and Carlos E. Cardenas of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
