Terry Blaine Hollingsworth, 72, of Brighton, Iowa passed away February 5, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with Lewy body dementia. Terry was born January 6, 1952 in Ottumwa, Iowa to “Gib” and Marjorie (Estes) Hollingsworth. After graduating from Ottumwa High, he went to work for MoorMan’s in Quincy, Illinois where he met Nancy Wilper. His sales district later moved them back to Iowa and they landed in Brighton. They wed on May 17, 1974 and although they later divorced, they remained close. Nancy, and their daughter, Jamie were his main caregivers during Terry’s last months in his home.
An epitome of grit, determination, and independence, Terry rode the trails of life with unwavering strength and resilience. He was a hard-working cowboy who tackled every challenge with a steadfast resolve, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. His spirit and tireless work ethic were matched only by his love for his family and horses. Although he has now hung up his hat, his legacy will live on. Rest easy, cowboy, and be free.
Terry is survived by his daughter Jamie of Washington, IA; three grandchildren, Oaklee (15), Bryer (13), and Pryce (11); a sister, Judy (Peter) Soballe of Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Gary (Debbie) Hollingsworth of Hedrick, Iowa; many nieces and a nephew; and many close friends he thought of as family.
A big “Thank You” to Parkview Nursing Home in Wayland, for the exceptional care and love they gave over the years Terry was in their care. And, to Washington County Hospice. The family will celebrate his life and honor Terry, Saturday, June 15, at his home in Brighton. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be mailed to the family at 2730 260th Street, Washington, IA 52353. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is assisting the family.
