The Rev. Walter Baird Phelps

      WAVERLY - The Rev. Walter Baird Phelps, 74, of Waverly died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, in the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. Burial following cremation will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday in the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where there will be a 7 p.m. public time of remembrance. Visitation will also be on Saturday in the church one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Hospice in Waverly or the donor's choice.

      The Rev. Phelps was born Jan. 27, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Tom and Mary (Baird) Phelps. He married Margaret Lohr on June 27, 1954.
