Thelma L. Horsey

Thelma Louisa Horsey, 106, of Washington, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, in the McCreedy Home in Washington.

A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the great-grandchildren?s education.

Mrs. Horsey was born in Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, on Oct. 1, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Christina (Sanner) Derby. She married Cloyce Horsey at the Presbyterian parsonage in Washington on Dec. 3, 1933.

She moved to Washington in 1923. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Washington and worked at a variety of jobs in Washington.

Surviving are one son, David Horsey of Washington; two grandsons; one great-grandson; and two step-great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1951; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Horsey. She was the last of a family of 12 children.
