Thelma Ruth Carr, 96, of Kalona, formerly of Washington, died Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A private graveside service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the West Chester Cemetery. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook Page. A memorial fund has been established for Paws & More. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Thelma Ruth Carr was born August 12, 1924, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of William and Iva (Wallace) Martin. She attended West Chester School and worked in housekeeping at the Washington County Hospital and as a cook at the Hillcrest dormitory at the University of Iowa. On December 27, 1944, she was united in marriage to Orin Carr. Ruth was a member of the Salem Friends Church and she enjoyed camping, cooking and being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons: William LeRoy (Mary) Carr of Wilton, Dennis (Janice) Carr of Washington; a daughter, Donna (Jerry) Hunter of Georgia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Ruth in death was her husband, Orin; one daughter, Vicki Bailey; two brothers: Floyd and Earl Martin; and four sisters: Florence Jackson, Helen Brown, Jeane Dunbar and Bessie Robins.
