Theresa K. Hass, 94, of Burlington passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Klein Center in West Burlington.
Theresa was born on April 22, 1928, at Stanwood, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew Robert & May Belle (Lerch) Aldrich. At the age of 3 years old she and her family moved to a farm in Clarence, Iowa. While in the 8th grade she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School and went on to graduate from Mt. Mercy College in 1948, with a degree in nursing. Theresa was united in marriage to Burnell G. Hass on July 12, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on November 8, 2003. Theresa and Burnell moved to Carroll, Iowa and later to St. Louis while Burnell was in Mortuary Science College.
In 1984, they founded the Hass Funeral Home in Burlington. She worked there until Burnell passed away in 2003. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish-SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, of Burlington, the American Business Women’s Association, Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary, Legion of Mary and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Theresa enjoyed music, especially country western, and most especially spending time with her family and church friends.
She is survived by her children, Kathy A. Hass of Burlington, Michael B. (Peg) Hass of Ankeny, Kevin M. (Joyce) Hass of Runnells and Maleia M. Thielen, four grandchildren, Adam Thielen, Lori Haigh, Amanda Hass, and Matthew Hass, seven great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Burnell and her brother, Donald Aldrich.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Burlington with The Very Reverend Father Marty Goetz as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Burlington. Memorials may be directed to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in her memory.
