SIGOURNEY -- Thomas Allen Hesseltine, 72, of Wayland, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center in Iowa City.
Celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 27, at Cottonwood United Methodist Church in Wayland with the Rev. Nancy Sutherland officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hesseltine was born Aug. 27, 1944, the son of Victor J. and Lucy (Fountain) Hesseltine.
He spent most of his life on the family farm near Wayland and attended Wayland Consolidated Schools. He was a lifetime member of Cottonwood United Methodist Church. His later years were spent in Wayland Parkview Home, Pearl Valley of Washington, and Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center. His family felt blessed with his sweet and loving nature, and he enriched all of their lives.
Surviving are three sisters, Jerry Sanchez and husband Bruce of Rockport, Texas, Sarah Piper of Wayland, and Peggy Cassens of Sigourney; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Hooley; two brothers, Joe Hesseltine, and Harry Hesseltine; and two brothers-in-law, Larry Piper, and Lee Cassens.
