Thomas Alan Shepherd, age 69, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

Celebration of life services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Prairie Flower Baptist Church. Family will receive friends following the service. Tom was born on August 15, 1953 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of David Carl and Darlene Marie (Siglin) Shepherd. He graduated from Eddyville High school, then later attended Indian Hills, obtaining his associate’s degree. Tom was united in marriage to Cynthia Jean Faber on September 23, 1974 in Centerville, Iowa.

Tom was a lifelong welder. He was also a high school teacher until 1988, when he and his wife moved the family to Washington, Iowa in 1989. He later was a welder at Modine MFG until his retirement. He attended church in Wayland, Iowa. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events.

Tom is survived by his wife Cindy Shepherd of Washington, Iowa; son, Zach (Beth) Shepherd of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Jill (Mat) Peterson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Luke (Missy) Shepherd of Grinnell, Iowa; daughter, Amy (Derek) Rowedder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Anna (Michael) Dice of Omaha, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; sister, Vickie (Jay) Kintzel of Longmont, Colorado; sister, Ann Rowland of Naples, Florida; sister, Jana (Rick) Barnard of Indianola, Iowa; brother, Rob (Dawn) Shepherd of Naples, Florida; sister, Beth Hartz of Menomonie, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Brian Hartz and Wayne Rowland.
