Thomas Edward Poland, age 67, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Washington County Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, at the First Baptist Church in Washington, with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A general memorial fund has been established in his memory.

Born on April 18, 1957, in Burlington, Iowa, Tom was the son of Clarence and Gloria (McCandless) Poland. He earned his GED from Burlington High School and married Jeri Shofe in 2008, enjoying a loving partnership for 16 years. He was previously married to Debbie Corns.

Tom was a resident of Washington for 20 years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church. He worked in maintenance at HACAP for ten years, and was later employed at the Ainsworth Four Corners until his health forced his early retirement. He enjoyed playing Bingo, attending antique car shows, and had a passion for collecting lighthouses and sailboats.

He is survived by his wife, Jeri; six daughters: Summer Dewes (Luke), Chrissy Fischer, Cindy Bream (Jake), Shanna Asher, Tiffany Poland, and Tailor Poland (Gregory Lumpkin); sisters Theresa Jachens (Michael) and Sherry Herod; along with 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lindy Poland; and brother, Jim Poland.
