Thomas Neal “Tom” Roth, 73, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Parkview Home in Wayland, Iowa, of complications due to Parkinson’s.
Thomas was born on January 31, 1951, in Washington, Iowa, to Neal and Martha (Wenger) Roth. He had two brothers, Ron (Char) Roth of La Grange, Indiana, and Mark (Donna) Roth of Wayland, Iowa, and two sisters, Bonnie Yoder and Carla (Don) Lowe, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Brimhall on June 5, 1971, at Finley Chapel United Methodist Church, Wayland, Iowa. They were married 53 years.
They have two daughters, Katie (Cory) Steele of Crawfordsville, Iowa, and Megan Roth of Spencer, Iowa. They were also blessed with two grandchildren ,Kylee and Clayton Steele. Preceding Tom in death were his parents and his brother-in-law Al Yoder.
Tom attended Sommer Country School, Wayland Elementary School, and graduated from Waco High School. He was a member of Finley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Tom drove a truck for Colonial Bread for a couple of years. He was a hard worker, raising corn, beans, hay and cattle on the farm west of Mount Pleasant while working full-time in the Mount Pleasant School District for 36 years. He did maintenance and janitorial work for the school and in his later years drove the food truck to deliver lunches to the students in the various schools in town. Tom loved watching sports on T.V. In his retirement, he loved mowing CRP ground with his John Deere tractor and riding his Kawasaki Mule all over the farm and to visit the neighbors.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Finley Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Finley Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the Olson-Powell Chapel and Crematory where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Mount Pleasant School District for the free and reduced lunch program and Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The service will be livestreamed on Powell Funeral Homes Facebook page and at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
