Thomas "Tom" Frances Spalla, 78, of Hedrick, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at his home.

Tom has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tommy Spalla, 1726 Willow Blvd., Lockridge, IA 52635.

Tom was born May 4, 1941, in Wisconsin, to Herb and Rose (Ducharme) Spalla.

After high school, Tom went to work for the railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. After the service, he went back to work for the railroad. He married Jean Heckethorn in 1969. They had two children, Tommy Spalla of Lockridge and Nikki (Chris) Rude of Fairfield. They later divorced. In 1980, he married Rose Hird. Rose had three sons, Jeremy (Brenda) Hird of Fairfield, Joe (Melody) Hird of Libertyville and Bill Hird of Lockridge. They later divorced.

His hobbies include mushroom hunting, a game of pool and playing cards. He retired as a carpenter.

Tom will be missed by his children; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, John, Herb, Tony, Veronica, Mary, Stella and Jean; and soulmate, Opal Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Rose Spalla.
