KALONA ? Timothy Ray Parris, 64, of Tiffin, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, in Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman with the Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Care Initiatives Hospice. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Parris was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Ottumwa, the son of the Rev. Robert and Vivian Maxine (Barnes) Parris.
He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1969, and in 1969 he joined the Marine Corps. After returning, he attended the University of Northern Iowa. He worked 40 years for the City of Iowa City in street maintenance, which he truly enjoyed. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, where he taught Sunday school. He enjoyed racing motocross, motorcycles, bicycling, reading, camping, watching sports, and spending time with family, and was an avid bird watcher.
Surviving are five children, Adam Henderson of Cedar Rapids, Amanda Regennitter and husband Bryan of Atalissa, Ameliea Parris of Columbus, Ohio, Abigail Hora and husband Bob of Oxford, and Austen Parris and wife Alyssa of North Liberty; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barb Semler, and Sue Schweiker; and one grandson.
