Trusa Marlene Cutkomp, 78, went home to the loving arms of the Lord on August 23, 2022, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
Trusa was born on August 18, 1944, in Fairfield, Iowa, daughter of John Elwood and Dorothy Hazel Layman. She grew up in a family that had a deep love for the Lord and a passion for music. She was a talented pianist and organist who used her gift of music to bless others at church and revivals around the state with her parents. It was during one of these revivals that she met Roger Cutkomp. They were married on June 30, 1962, in Fairfield, Iowa.
They settled down on one of the Cutkomp Farms south of Columbus City, Iowa. Trusa worked at the nursing home that her parents owned in Muscatine, Iowa, until the couple welcomed their first child into the world in 1964. Their family grew to 3 daughters and 2 sons.
Trusa was a longtime member of the Free Methodist church in Columbus City, where she was a Board member, taught Sunday School and played the piano/organ each Sunday. In later years, she became a member of the Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church in Wayland, Iowa where she also played the piano/organ and was a Board member.
Trusa was always a loving and caring person. All of the various jobs she held over the years involved caring for others as this was her true passion. She maintained a house full of energy and love. Her home was constantly alive not only with her husband and five children, but also with visitors, meals, games and fun. After living on the farm for 52 years, they moved to Halcyon House in Washington.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger; her 5 children, Tammy (Robert) Emry of Brighton, IA, Barbara (Bryan) Kottman of Donnellson, IA, Troy (Marianne) Cutkomp of Ingelside, TX, Chad (Loretta) Cutkomp of Columbus Junction, IA, Amy (Adam) Taylor of Shawnee, KS, 9 grandchildren Joseph (Tammy), Stephanie and Jacob (Barb), Dakota and Sierra (Troy), Haley (Chad), Jadon, Maya and Kyla (Amy), and 5 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Bryce, Ericson, Ellie Mae and Samuel (Stephanie).
