Vada V. Byrum, 99, of Packwood, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

Vada was born April 24, 1923, near Ollie, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Vera (Keasling) Van Orsdall. Vada’s mother Vera died at a young age so she was raised by Frank and Annie Carter, (Howard’s sister). Vada was united in marriage to Owen Harrison Byrum on Oct. 3, 1947, in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Packwood. She enjoyed being outside, working in her garden and spending time with family and friends.

Vada is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Edna Hutton, Wanda Conger and Lucy Van Orsdall; and four brothers in infancy.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Frosty Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be at Van Orsdall Cemetery near Ollie. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home.
