Valvert "Bugs" Lee Fleming was born Feb. 26, 1924, to Fred and Bessie Fleming in rural Stockport, Iowa. He grew up in Stockport and graduated from Stockport High School with the Class of 1940. Valvert was a member of the United States Army and served his country in World War II as a radio operator, stationed in Italy. After his service he returned to Stockport, where he was part owner and operator of Fleming and Droz, a local tavern. Valvert later worked as a meat cutter at McKee and Droz Locker and then moved to Fort Madison in 1962 to work in the meat department at HyVee. Valvert returned to Stockport after he retired and lived near family and friends. He was a member of the Walton Club and Elks Club in Fairfield and the Stockport American Legion. Valvert had a love for baseball and was an avid, lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. Valvert's friendly smile and keen sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He was a beloved uncle, brother and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lois Jones and Berniece Alley; and two brothers, Harold Webber and Estol (Jip) Fleming.
In the last years of his life, Valvert was lovingly cared for by his great-nephew and wife, Alan and Kathy Love.
