Velva Jean Brereton, age

80 of Fairfield, passed away August 12, 2020, at her home.

Celebration of Velva's life will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family and mailed to Cindy Chambers, 302 Washington, Bonaparte, IA 52620.

Velva was born June 14, 1940, in Stockport to Harold and Ruth Mae (Warrington) Rowe. She married Lloyd Brereton and he passed away February 5, 1991.

Velva worked at the Eagles Club for years as manager and bartender. She loved to play cards, 31 was her favorite. Velva's friends would get together at the Eagles Club and enjoyed playing cards, visiting and (gossiping). They did this for years until the Eagles had to lock their doors. Velva missed going to the Eagles, as it gave her a place to go and a chance to play cards. She was a wonderful cook, loved her music and loved life.

Velva is survived by her children, Rob McCarty of Keosauqua, IA, Cindy (Bill) Chambers of Bonaparte, IA and Steve (Brenda) Brereton of Wapello, IA; 8 grandchildren, Nichole Brereton, Robbie McCarty, Bobby Ehret, Kelly Putnam, Rick McCarty, Richard McCarty, Renny McCarty and Anna Brereton; 13 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Melva Maple, Barb Strong, Larry Rowe, Rick Rowe, Keith Rowe and Jana Tronele.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruth Mae; husband, Lloyd; two brothers, Mike and Keith; and one sister, Susie.

She will be missed very much and was our best friend. See you in Heaven Mom. Love you Mom, from your children!
