Vena L. Hughell

      Vena L. Hughell, 79, 305 Broadway St., Libertyville, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005.

      A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

      Family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A family memorial has been established in Vena L. Hughell's name.

      Mrs. Hughell was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Downing, Mo., the daughter of Earl E. and Mary Richards Daniels. She married John David Hughell Nov. 11, 1951. He died Sept. 8, 2001.

      Mrs. Hughell grew up in Downing and graduated from Downing High School. She moved to the Batavia community in the late 1940s. She received her nurse's training in Brownsville, Texas. She was a licensed practical nurse for 25 years. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and the Ottumwa hospital. She also worked at Nelson Nursing Home and Parkview Care Center, both in Fairfield, before her retirement.

      Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Hayes and husband William of Muscatine; two sons, Reginald Hughell and wife Jayne and Anthony "Tony" Hughell, all of Batavia; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nina Thomas and Roberta Bates.

      In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
