Vera Frances Shelledy, 74, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at her home in New London.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Elliot Chapel in New London with the Rev. Tom Henstock officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London. Visitation began at noon today at Elliot Chapel with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening. Memorials have been established to the New London Rescue Unit and the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Shelledy was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Des Moines County, the daughter of Edward Leroy and Edna Letitia Bishop Dockendorff. She married David Kenneth Shelledy on Dec. 5, 1946, in New London. She was a 1942 graduate of New London High School. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed needlework, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the New London Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association, the Garden Club, the Good Times Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Southeast Iowa Antique Auto Club, and the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of New London; one son, Jim Shelledy of Nevada; three daughters, Joan Swender of Mt. Vernon, Dianne Dickey of Lincoln, Neb., and Janet Dillavou of Lincoln, Neb.; one brother, Glenn Dockendorff of Danville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
