Vera Mary Sorensen, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and aunt died peacefully in her sleep on July 17, 2015 at the age of 90.
She was born on the family farm in Riverside, IA, the second child and first daughter of Wilford and Anna Simon Thomann. She grew up on the family farm with her eight siblings, three of whom survive (Bernard Thomann, Marjorie Hora and Doris Yeggy, all of Riverside, IA)
After graduating from St Mary?s High School, she moved to Iowa City where she met and married Arthur Davis. In the mid 1950?s she and Art moved with their three children to Albuquerque, NM where she went to work for Mountain Bell. By the time she retired 29 years later, she had worked her way up to the position of Manager of the Service Bureau. She was very active in the Business and Professional Women?s organization, serving as President of the New Mexico State Board of Directors.
Arthur died in 1984. In 1992 she married Louis Sorensen. They had 13 wonderful years together before his passing in 2005.
She remained in Albuquerque until 2011 when she suffered a serious leg injury. Vera was moved to an Assisted Care Facility in San Diego, near where her son and his family live.
Vera is also survived by her three children, Leslie (Jane), San Diego, CA, Barby Marianne Rosensimon, Tucson, AZ and Sandra Wessgar, Albuquerque, NM and two grandchildren, Thomas Davis, San Diego, CA and Susan Nierman (Brian), Denver, CO; also survived by her Dachshund, Leggs, her long time companion .
Vera?s ashes will be interred with Louis at the Santa Fe National Cemetery sometime in the fall.
